The Knights of Rizal-Valenzuela Central chapter started its project “Rizal: Bantayog ng Karunungan” in Valenzuela City with the unveiling of the Rizal monument at Malinta Elementary School, February 15.
In a program facilitated by the school and the knights, KOR NCR regional commander Sir Gilbert C. San Diego, KCR, Valenzuela Central commander Sir Erlindo C. Dionisio, KCR, DepEd Valenzuela representative and Araling Panlipunan education supervisor Dr. Floramante J. De Guzman, and Malinta Elementary School principal Nerissa A. Espinosa unveiled the new Rizal monument in front of school children.
Sir San Diego in his speech mentioned the importance of monuments, like one of Rizal, in molding awareness to students about the rich history and culture of the country and memorializing the life and teachings of the national hero.
Chapter Commander Sir Dionisio then transferred the care of the monument to the principal and to the school’s general parents-teachers association.
Sir Joe Lad Santos, KCR, former chairman of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, delivered to the assembly a poem he especially wrote to commemorate the occasion and the national hero.
School principal Espinosa expressed her profound gratitude to the KOR in choosing the school as a recipient and gave a promise to maintain the beauty of the monument and to conduct commemoration activities for Rizal in the school.
Rizal: Bantayog ng Karunungan is a flagship project of the Knights of Rizal Valenzuela Central chapter that aims to promote commemoration of Rizalian virtues and teachings through construction of Rizal monuments in various schools in the city.
The chapter targets to place two more Rizal monuments this year – at Vicente P. Trinidad National High School, Punturin and at Mapulang Lupa National High School.
